Thread: No desktop, no panel, just a black screen

as described in this thread, no-one able respond, had problem kubuntu 9.04 - viz. although run programs, had no desktop (i.e. no wallpaper , no icons), no panel, , no title bar on windows.

thought problem might have been because installed kubuntu backports repos , kind of part-upgraded kde 4.3. i've upgraded 4.3 command line, appears have worked because have new login screen. still have no desktop , no panel. have title bars on windows though, , kubuntu semi-usable in can press alt+f2, run konsole, , run programs there (i have alt+tab between windows, since have no task manager widget without panel).

kde broken in way - how can fix it?

i upgraded kde 4.3 , totally effed system. re-installed whole system using ubuntu server disk, added 4.3 ppa, installed kde.

maybe if try totally removing kde:

re-installing kubuntu-desktop, can things working.
