Thread: mdadm raid 5 disk failure question

i have raid 5 array 4 disks. 2 of them physically bad. both click on boot up. question if use 1 of data recovery services , have them mirror 1 of failed drives on new drive, , plot drive machine, array assemble correctly?

mdadm use information on drive determine array drive belongs to, or os have list of hard drives identified serial number or , use info assemble array.

thanks,
matt

i've never done thinking of doing. can tell md, in kernel, uses special uuid imprinted in drives' superblocks assemble array. uuid not 1 kernel uses mount drives. it's 1 that's in /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf file.

so, might have chance of having 2 drives correctly assembled, if data recovery process doesn't alter indiviudal drive superblocks.
