Thread: ATI Radeon Screen Geometry Problem

i have perplexing problem have been battling week , ready give up.

problem in 1280x720 mode, 2" black bar along left side of screen going frop top bottom. entire picture shifted right off right edge of screen. no amount of tweaking in settings menu of tv can picture re-centered.

running xbmc media center on ubuntu 9.04 ati radeon 3450 video card. using latest catalyst 9.8 drivers. tv sony 720p flat panel supports 1280x720. can connect laptop (dell studio 15") tv , put in 1280x720 mode , not happen, nor happen in other screen resolution. have tried 1280x768 , 1164x648 (or whatever next down is). desktop shifted right in 1280x720 mode. doesnt matter whether im @ desktop or in xbmc, same. none of options in catalyst software can correct this.

extremely frustrating because want run tv @ native resolution optimal picture quality. instead forced run @ scaled resolution, techincally looks fine, still bothers me not in "best" resolution.

not sure need me me, let me know if has ideas.

still haven't solved problem, have narrowed problem down catalyst drivers. if reload ubuntu , not load catalyst drivers, instead stick proprietary third party ati drivers, can run 1280x720 without screen geometry problem.

considering sticking these drivers, problem not have control on things gamma , screen scaling nice watching movies. ive found when watch movies using default drivers, things either bright or dark. can compensate tv's brightness , contrast settings, screws every other input have, annoying.

in either case, issue might hardware combined ati drivers...still, if has suggestions, i'd happy!

i have laptop dead motherboard . can remove components laptop , in anyway possible connect raspberry pi inbuilt display , keyboard on laptop ? (and touchpad if possible).
