My first project (arm and solenoid controlled by arduino)

so i'm wanting venture world of arduino :d start off on right foot , buy needed equipment in 1 shot (or scavenge parts) first project. i'm wanting have arduino connected 2 devices. first being solenoid have 5 second timer on it. every 10 seconds power applied cut off. @ same time when power applied solenoid, power applied push arm. push arm drag stylus across screen reset when gets end of track. after resets whole process start over. attached rough diagram of i'm wanting do. feasible beginner or on stepping? :)

the arduino part seems extremely simple. external hardware going take effort design , build.

you don't give hints size of device or force, distance or speed requirements of these 2 actuators, if you're able use plain old rc servo either of them make project lot easier.

i'm on lookout low tech solutions problems this. guessing want solenoid 'up' when arm moving 1 way, , 'down' when moving other way, consider using car windscreen wiper motor reciprocating movement, , limit switches turn solenoid on , off.

i have laptop dead motherboard . can remove components laptop , in anyway possible connect raspberry pi inbuilt display , keyboard on laptop ? (and touchpad if possible).
