USB HD: is this safe? - Raspberry Pi Forums
hi all,
got rpi2 , excited it!
small jewel.
works fine , succeeded in using vpn access point sublan of lan.
set dlna server.
got usb key, test: goal have usb hd.
when tried hd, got rainbow square, meaning low power. purchased 5v 2.4a power supply , used better (shorter , thicker) usb cable. still had problems: no square, low performances , many things didn't work.
searching on forum, discovered had add option
safe_mode_gpio=4
/boot/config.txt. did , seems work flawlessly.
question is: safe? please note have, on pi, following devices:
- usb keyboard receiver (keyboard: logitech 400)
- usb wifi key (netgear wna1100)
- usb hd (samsung m3 1tb)

if works , don't square, safe.
should change "safe_mode_gpio=4" "max_usb_current=1" proper name option. old name may stop working future upgrades.
