Problem with UTFT bitmap buttons and setFont

i have mega 2560 io expansion shield v2.3 connected itdb32wd lcd.  i'm having problem displaying bunch of bitmap buttons text.  buttons .png files converted .c files using converter included utft library.  attached test code displays bunch of buttons , text.  cannot display 7 buttons , text @ same time.  if comment out  myglcd.setfont(smallfont); line buttons work (obviously text doesn't display correctly since didn't tell font use).  if include setfont line , comment out 1 of buttons (except last one), text , included buttons display fine.  if include program compiles, screen white , nothing shows in serial monitor either (i realize i'm not sending serial port, in other programs i've tried nothing shows up).  i'm hoping can try code , figure out going wrong.  i've contacted henning, doesn't see reason why shouldn't work , doesn't have time test out.  suggestions appreciated.

i have laptop dead motherboard . can remove components laptop , in anyway possible connect raspberry pi inbuilt display , keyboard on laptop ? (and touchpad if possible).
