Need some A/D converter advice - Raspberry Pi Forums

hi,
bought inspeed e-vane wind direction sensor uses hall-effect output 0.25 4.75vdc indicate wind direction. obiously i'm going need ad converter use thing , wondering if people here recommend a/d converters me use? i've bought pcf8591s play they're 8 bit , figure i'll need 10 bits smoothly map 0.25 4.75vdc 360 compass points. i've been taking @ mcp3008 according a post on thread on forum has low input impedance. according inspeed minimum recommended input impedance hall sensor 50k ohms. i've taken @ mc3008 data sheet find no indication of input impedance on analog input channels on mc3008 is.

also, i'm code monkey, not circuit nerd , don't want fry $129 worth of sensor on first try can vet way planning hook sensor pi+ad converter? hall sensor on inspeed e-vane 3 connectors: supply (3-5v,) ground , output seems work potentiometer. way figure have replace potentiometer in below picture hall sensor. there i'm missing? perhaps zener diode protect hall sensor against power supply spikes, or not problem on pi?

instructions inspeed bit rudimentary:

your 8-bit converters fine. weather vane never still enough warrant 1-degree accuracy. can averaging, fundamentally going report 3-bit accuracy (n, ne, e, se etc.) humans digest.

luck.
