Short Range Wireless Communication

i wondering if had suggestions arduino (nano) compatible solution short (ideally ~15 feet) wireless communication, either between 2 arduinos or arduino , phone. 2 obvious solutions either bluetooth or rf module, both seem have great of range. according here, shortest range bluetooth radios have range of approximately 3 feet (too short), , next step has range of approximately 30 feet (too large). rf modules i've been able find, such this one, seem have ranges large (for one, it's supposedly 300 feet, reported 100 feet).

edit: 2 devices need able communicate without line of sight.

use infrared. cluster of led's pointing ways, can quite cover pretty big area.

i have laptop dead motherboard . can remove components laptop , in anyway possible connect raspberry pi inbuilt display , keyboard on laptop ? (and touchpad if possible).
