Resizing an image in ActionScript

i'm working company on project , need way to:

1). allow user of our website select image on computer.
2). compress image specific dimensions
3). upload image site.

we want compress image first reduce upload time , make sure pictures fit nicely templates have.

i approach way
flash/flex resize image user can see going on.
then flash/flex can upload resize data , original image.
then on server side perform resizing.

i have laptop dead motherboard . can remove components laptop , in anyway possible connect raspberry pi inbuilt display , keyboard on laptop ? (and touchpad if possible).
