Thread: Forced to re-login every day or two

fortunately have habit of saving work frequently, i'm going caught , it's critical...

desktop 9.04 installation routinely (every day or two) crashes forcing me re-sign in. i'll coding or surfing net , screen goes black. shows text (i never chance read all) second reminds me of screen used see when booting linux:

application name [ok]
application name [ok]
etc. [ok]

returns me login screen. when login fine, of course i've lost windows. ubuntu installation reasonably new i'm 99.99% sure not occurring when first installed it, changed in last month. don't know if update, or when installed ati driver use compiz, or else.

use machine software development, nothing unusual installed. apache, postgres, activemq, eclipse, firefox typically running. it's 32-bit installation scratch (no upgrade) of 9.04, on 8gb ram, quad core desktop pc.

appreciated.

if @ file /var/log/messages, may see error messages related crash. may give insight caused it.

not usual behaviour ubuntu, people report uptimes of months ubuntu boxes. check out logs.

i have laptop dead motherboard . can remove components laptop , in anyway possible connect raspberry pi inbuilt display , keyboard on laptop ? (and touchpad if possible). Smoothing Capacitor value?

hi everyone! i have question "smoothing capacitors". have 5v arduino project have 6 individual 5v components attached it. since need these running @ different times, wanted take similar approach of nick gammon's in helpful example (http://www.gammon.com.au/forum/?id=12106) , use few mosfets switch these little guys on & off individually (instead of regular arduino pins), while minimizing potential power surges affect microcontroller and/or components themselves. these components 5v, , have maximum draw of ~170ma when powered on @ same time. so, if used 6 different mosfet switches turn switch +5v power line on each component directed via arduino uno, wondering: 1. still use 1 capacitor (like nick did in example)? 2. capacitor of 100uf work, or should use bigger? my plan first test circuit mosfets & capacitor(s) using usb, , later on, moving project battery power. thanks in advance ideas & suggestions! quote these little guys what ...
