Thread: synaptic will not start after CPU swap

working on hardware here, upgraded piii 1.2ghz piii-s 1.4ghz tualatin 512 cache, best socket 370 cpu ever. anyway, system boots, apps run, folds, except synaptic package manager try start, ask sudo pwd, crash away never there. same thing auto updater, couple minutes after boot red message icon says "a problem occurred when checking updates"

ran searches , didn't see helpful, have ideas??

os ubuntustudio 9.04

stg, far "a problem occurred when checking updates" goes, perhaps may help:

open terminal menu applications → accessories → terminal , type:
(when system ask password give user password, not see nothing when type it, press enter)

sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get --fix-missing install
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get autoremove

please report error message here if there any.
