Thread: How to get quicktime movies, .avi, .mpg to play?
i've installed ubuntu-retricted-extras-package.
however, can not play .mov files or .avi files email mac taken on digital cameras. also, mpg files won't play.
movieplayer & vlc open , quit , disapear. dragonplayer atleast play movie there no video (all black) , can hear sound of movie.
also, firefox not play quicktime movies online.
@ link https://help.ubuntu.com/9.04/musicvi...-playback.html don't understand statement "if try play unsupported video file, asked if search suitable codec. click search and, when install multimedia codecs window appears, select 1 of codecs displayed in list , click install."
don't understand [from above] when i'm asked search suitable codec because never point can click "search" @ anytime.
make work without typing in code, (unless code on page on ubuntu site know official) because had major problems typing in code users suggested , did full reinstall of ubuntu (no offense please).
to clear, problem vlc , movieplayer die when open these videos? in, black window appears split second, entire program crashes?
had same problem, , found site mentioned bug in current version of xvideo output layer both programs use. workaround use x11 or sdl output video instead.
vlc, type:
orcode:vlc --vout x11there way change in configuration, replaced references program these.code:vlc --vout sdl
again, have entirely different problem.
