Thread: No bootable Device error

after fresh install of ubuntu server error " no bootable device -- insert disk , press key "

if put live cd in , select "boot first hard drive" grub loads , comes expected. cant seem system boot directly first hard drive without live cd.

have checked boot order in bios , have set hard drive first in line, hasnt helped. fun tried going through system recovery option on live cd , when gets detecting filesystem. says affect of no file system found, may not mounted or that. if need full error here, can go through process again.

put live cd in again, select boot first hard drive , boots perfectly.

ideas?

looks if did not write grub master boot record (mbr) first sector of hd. once boot on live cd run grub-install fix

i have laptop dead motherboard . can remove components laptop , in anyway possible connect raspberry pi inbuilt display , keyboard on laptop ? (and touchpad if possible).
