variable information in a snippet

i'm not sure "get" concept behind new snippet functionality in rh7. understand part how reusable blocks of text can create once , insert in many places. makes sense, include *exactly* same block of text in multiple places. do, though, include similar instructions in many places. steps vary depending on topic. is, topic called "creating x" includes numbered steps setting x; topic called "creating y" includes numbered steps setting y; , topic called "creating z" includes numbered steps setting z. except names of what's being created (x vs y vs z), step-by-step instructions same.

i hoping use snippet text in topics x, y, z identical (most of it), while somehow inserting variable in snippet change x y z, depending on topic. can done?

seems allow adding user defined variable in snippet no issues. edit snippet, create or assign user defined variable want.
