Thread: Ubuntu and Windows Black Troubles

recently, old computer came hands. had windows xp home edition on it, but, being microsoft, operating system crashed , destroyed boot sectors, mbr, recovery partition, ect. brother, 1 owned prior me, had absolutely no idea do, bought new laptop. thought no problem fix computer, being software failure.

computer compaq presario sr1520nx, addition on years being second 512 ram stick. said, not high-end.

go this, decided copy of windows xp black sp3, copy of release disc of ubuntu 9.04 (jaunty). @ first, tried use windows partitioner create 2 partitions. mistake, windows labeled both partitions full far ubuntu concerned. 1 disc format , windows installation later, ubuntu use remaining part of ntfs section of windows create ext3 partition , swap partition install operation system.

first irritant came had no access external harddrive when used esata port. port esata bracket plugs sata ports on motherboard. came antec harddrive enclosure. i've never used bracket, esata port, or sata port, don't know problem. know it's not enclosure, because usb-b port works fine, , case new. decided ignore , use usb port while waited (hopefully) esata/sata support motherboard in karmic koala. continuing on, moved problem of drivers wireless card.

here's troubles begin. ubuntu still boots correctly. @ moment, however, can't use ubuntu because not natively support drivers wireless card, belkin f5d8053 n (mimo) usb device. thought bit odd, decided solution here on forums. not finding 1 use without sort of internet connection computer itself, decided install drivers on windows.

again, hit wall. windows won't boot. after installing ubuntu, neglected make sure windows still boot. doesn't. msdos-style screen says, "starting..." isn't helpful, want use both operating systems.

you've read tale of heroism, magic, , laser-gun fights, i'd ask help. 3 things (in order of importance) i'd these:

1)booting windows black , ubuntu

2)using belkin wireless card

3)using sata/esata port external harddrive.
